What advice would you give your younger self?
Have faith in yourself! Your education and experience have helped you develop valuable expertise to enable you to carve out a successful career. Don't be afraid of new opportunities, even if you're being asked to do something you haven't done before. Also, stretch yourself beyond your 'day' job and volunteer for activities that you are interested in. Seek out a mentor, and take time to listen to others' experience.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Lake Tahoe, California

What made you want to pursue a career in nursing?
After I gave birth to my children I realized what an important role nurses play in healthcare. There was a nursing shortage at that time, so I thought I would be able to have steady employment in nursing. And both things were true! Nursing has been an amazing career for me and I have been fortunate to find a career path that is both innovative and rewarding.

What book should every nurse read?
Lean in by Sheryl Sandberg.

What has been your most interesting/surprising outcome while conducting nursing research?
I haven't done formal research, but in my work at HIMSS we publish a triennial workforce survey of nurse informaticists. It is always surprising to see how the role changes and evolves in both increasing salary, educational background and leadership responsibility.

What is a fun fact many people may not know about you?
I love sports and was on the tennis team in college.

What is your Twitter handle?
