What advice would you give your younger self?
Be patient, all good things take time.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Hawaii, Kona.

What made you want to pursue a career in nursing?
My mother, my immigration status, a want to succeed and be seen as equal, my desire to support the community.

What book should every nurse read?
Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

What has been your most interesting/surprising outcome while conducting nursing research?
A deeper understanding and appreciation of the social dynamics which create barriers for nurses to rise.

What is a fun fact many people may not know about you?
I have four French Bulldogs

Dr. Cyrus Batheja is the National Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at UnitedHealthcare. He supports the development and execution of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial insurance-based programs aimed at helping individuals and families access essential social services that are the gateway to better health. UnitedHealthcare proudly serves nearly 20 million members across the U.S., UnitedHealthcare is a division of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) which is a diversified health and well-being company with a mission to help people live healthier lives and help make the health system work better for everyone.

As part of the leadership team, Dr. Batheja has a direct focus on building a business which supports consumer wellbeing through whole-person care (social, behavioral, physical, and safety). His work is centered on health equity alignment, system improvement, and executing person-centric systems at scale. His work has demonstrated that strength within the patient-provider relationship results in cost reduction, population health improvement, and meaningful health system experiences. He has twenty plus years of experience in managed care and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS).

Dr. Batheja earned his ADN from Normandale College, his BSN and MBA from Augsburg University, and his Doctorate from the University of St. Thomas. As a community leader, Cyrus was inducted into the University of Minnesota's, Sigma Zeta Chapter (international nursing honor society). He currently sits on the University of Minnesota's School of Nursing, Dean's Board of Visitors. He is on the Board of Regents at Augsburg University, and also serves on the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute, Public Research Advisory Board (PRAB) which ensures that research is conducted in a culturally appropriate manner.

He has received the 2019 UnitedHealth Group Sage of Clinical Service Award, Mpls/St Paul Magazine 2013 award in Administrative Nursing Leadership, and he is a 2012 March of Dimes Nurse of the Year. Most recently, he was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as a 2021 Fellow.
